WSC Listening to their Consumers – Offering referral incentive for faithful customers

On the heels of their successful Win Back Campaign, the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) has launched their Customer Referral Program after listening to the requests of their faithful customers. Customers participating in the referral program will receive $25 off their water bill when they get their friends and family to ‘ditch the well’ and switch to city water service.

“Here at WSC we have been working extremely hard to improve our services and quality for our clients,” said Visna Armbrister, WSC Public Affairs Manager. “As a result, we are actively encouraging people to give us a try, and our referral program is just another method we are using to reach potential customers and to reward our loyal ones.”

Since receiving an $81 million dollar loan from the Inter-American Development Bank in 2011, WSC’s services have been steadily improving. As reported by General Manager of WSC, Glen Laville, at the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce last year, the Corporation has reduced their non-revenue water by nearly four million gallons per day. This reduction of non-revenue water has saved the corporation $6.5 million in the past two years.

Additionally, nearly 14,000 service lines have been replaced, over 650 water mains have been repaired and nearly 1,500 system valves have been cleaned. The Corporation has also recently signed a contract to expand their services to the communities of Pinewood (Phase B), Boatswain Hill, and Coral Lakes. When it comes to repairing their infrastructure and ensuring a reliable water supply for Nassau, WSC has exceeded their goals since receiving the IDB loan and partnering with MIYA Bahamas. Their partnership with MIYA has also allowed them to hire and train 100 Bahamians to work for the company and help improve their water systems. Best of all, they recently won an award for best tasting water at the Caribbean Water & Wastewater Conference.

While the Corporation has been working on their infrastructure, they have been improving the way they reach out to customers. Employing several new avenues, WSC has been using social media, YouTube, and speaking engagements to educate the public on these drastic improvements. They also added an online bill payment system last year and by next month, customers will be able to view bills and their payment history online.

With all of the improvements, the Corporation is now actively seeking previous clients to return and for new ones to sign up for their services. At the end of 2015, Water and Sewerage offered 50% off for new or returning customers. During that promotion, current customers asked about possible discounts or rewards for their loyalty. WSC listened, and created their new referral program. All current customers can get $25 for each person that signs up for city water and mentions their name.

For 2016, the public should see a more aggressive company reaching out for more clients, including door-to-door visits in key areas and new subdivisions. For updates on works or improvements in your area, residents are urged to visit the Corporation’s social media or website pages.
