Wastewater Conference Coming to The Bahamas for the Fourth Time

Nassau, Bahamas – The Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) recently announced that they will be hosting the 23rd Annual Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) Conference and Exhibition which will be held at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island October 6th thru October 10th, 2014.

CWWA Conference Chairman, Cyprian Gibson noted, “The theme of this year’s conference is very fitting as between thirty to forty percent of the cost of water production is energy related. We’re extremely focused on the energy components of water production, including the amount of energy that goes into non-revenue water production.”

CWWA is a regional umbrella association of professionals, scientists and utility operators, and vendors in the water, wastewater and the solid waste sector. The association’s Mission Statement is “to advance the science, practice and management of water supply and waste disposal for the benefit of the Caribbean people through the development of human resources, public education and professionalism as well as promotion of appropriate technologies in the water and waste sector.” In keeping with this mission, this year’s Conference Theme is “Water and Waste and Energy in the Caribbean”.

This year marks the fourth time in the 23-year history of CWWA that WSC has been called upon to host the annual conference. In 1996 WSC hosted the 5th annual conference at the Radisson Cable Beach Hotel, in 2003 and 2012 WSC hosted the 12th and 21st annual conferences at Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island. All of the previous conferences were considered great successes, and the last one attracted over five hundred delegates.

WSC once again expects the participation and/or representation of at least five hundred local and international Water, Waste, and Solid Waste Practitioners, Technocrats, Engineers, Industry Leaders, CEOs, Regional NGOs and Intergovernmental Organizations, Ministers of Government and High Level Dignitaries from across the Caribbean Region, The Americas, and Europe in this year’s conference.

The event will feature more than seventy technical sessions, sixty exhibits, and four specialised workshops lead by international experts. The workshops and exhibits will include: Water Risk & Disasters, Water Climate Change and Health, ABC Training/Certification for Water Utilities, Contractors and much more. Additionally, there will be technical tours, the awards banquet, and networking opportunities with the best experts in the region.

Partners for this year’s conference include The Global Water Operators Partnership (Caribbean), The Pan-American Health Organization and World Health Organization, The Inter-American Development Bank, The United Nations Environment Program, The Caribbean Regional Wastewater Fund, Caribbean Water and Sewerage Association, The Caribbean Environmental Health Institute, Un-Habitat and numerous sponsors and vendors.
