PRESS RELEASE
ZNS NEWS STORY ON FEBRUARY 18 & 19, 2010 REGARDING WSC WORKS ON COLLINS AVENUE
The Water and Sewerage Corporation wishes to set the record straight regarding a news story that was carried by ZNS Television and Radio on February 18 & 19, 2010 regarding works on Collins Avenue at the junction of Collins Avenue and 1st Terrace.
During the repaving of Collins Avenue, some of the Corporation’s sewer manholes and water valve boxes were paved over. The Corporation was simply removing the asphalt that was covering the manhole and raising the manhole ring & cover so that we would have access at all times to our sewerage system while at the same time ensuring that the ring & cover were raised to the new road elevation so that the motoring public would continue to enjoy a smooth ride along Collins Avenue.
In fact, in all locations where roads have been paved and sewer manholes and water valve boxes were paved over, it is a standard practice that these important access points be raised to the new road elevations while maintaining the integrity of the new roadway and the comfort of the motoring public.
The Corporation wishes to assure the public that we are working closely with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to ensure that as much as possible, we carry out improvement works prior to road paving. A perfect example of this coordination is the ongoing Shirley Street Project.
