| International Experts Assist In Water Loss Intervention
NASSAU, The Bahamas (September 5th 2005) Two internationally recognised water industry experts have joined with the Water & Sewerage Corporation (WSC) and Consolidated Water Co. Ltd. (CWCO) to address the long time water loss problem throughout the WSC system on New Providence.
Julian Thornton and Paul Fanner head up a local team that will tackle the task and meet CWCO contract obligations to the Bahamas’ government that calls for the reduction of ‘lost’ water or Non Revenue Water (NRW) in the amount of 365 million imperial gallons within a twelve month period. WSC team members will receive full on-the-job training to ensure on-going prevention measures and equipment maintenance. The NRW project is a part of the contract awarded to CWCO in March for the design, construction and operation of the Blue Hills Reverse Osmosis Plant which will produce six million imperial gallons of potable water a day for New Providence when completed in July 2006. Water produced by the Blue Hills Plant will be purchased by WSC and is expected to relieve the reliance on water currently barged from Andros.
Julian Thornton of Thornton International, is a non revenue water (NRW) specialist with 25 years of international project experience in 15 countries and the acclaimed author of the Water Loss Control Manual by McGraw Hill of New York. In addition to water audit and intervention experience Julian is specialized in pressure management, which will be one of the key tools responsible for reducing water loss on New Providence. Julian is an active American Water Works Association (AWWA) and International Water Association (IWA) member and he currently serves as the chair for the AWWA ad hoc committee which is re writing the M36 Manual for Water Audits and Leak Detection and is also the IWA Water Loss Task Force Pressure Management Team Leader.
Paul Fanner of Fanner and Associates is a senior water industry manager with broad experience gained over 28 years in the industry. Paul has worked for both Thames Water and Bristol Water in a variety of technical, operational and managerial roles, both in the UK and overseas. He is experienced in managing all aspects of NRW reduction work to meet regulatory targets and the determination of the economic level of leakage, having been responsible for this work over several years at Bristol Water. Paul is also an experienced consultant, having undertaken many international assignments for Thames Water and Bristol Water. More recently, Paul was responsible for establishing and developing WSO, a successful consultancy corporation, based in Miami, before returning to the UK to setup his own specialist water loss consultancy, Fanner & Associates Ltd.
