Restoration of Water -Robinson Road & Second Street
PRESS RELEASE
RESTORATION OF WATER SUPPLIES FOLLOWING MAJOR TRANSMISSION MAIN FAILURE AT THE JUNCTION OF ROBINSON ROAD AND 2ND STREET THE GROVE
The Corporation’s principal water transmission main which serves eastern New Providence suffered a major failure during the early afternoon of Thursday May-06-2010 at the junction of Robinson Road and 2nd Street the Grove. A team was immediately mobilized; however the repair was slowed by site conditions and the complexity of the failure. Due to the complexity of the failure, a temporary repair was completed at approximately 3:30PM on Friday May-07-2010. Supply was restored to the majority of our affected customers in eastern New Providence by Friday evening and to the remaining customers by early Saturday morning. Customers in the affected areas would have experienced and may continue to experience some periods of low pressure as we work to fully restore our storage levels at our Winton Station.
As a part of the New Providence Road Improvement Project (NPRIP), a new 24-inch transmission main will be installed along Robinson Road/Prince Charles Drive up to the Fox Hill Road junction including replacing the infrastructure at the junction of Robinson Road and 2nd Street the Grove. The materials for the project have been ordered and once they have arrived, the Corporation will coordinate efforts with the NPRIP Contractor and the relevant government agencies to expedite the works. This new transmission main will not only improve the reliability of our transmission network but will also significantly increase the flow of water that can be moved eastward to meet an ever increasing demand.
The Corporation appreciates and thanks our customers and the general public for their patience and understanding, and regrets and apologizes for the inconveniences caused by the unintentional water supply interruption.
Customers who continue to experience periods of very low pressure or no water are encouraged to contact our Customer Call Center at 302-5599 or 325-0505; so that their specific complaints can be investigated on a case by case basis as there is the possibility that some individual water lines may require corrective works following a water supply interruption. Customers are also invited to email their concerns and/or feedback to wscomplaints@wsc.com.bs.
